The E100 framework marks a significant expansion from India's ongoing ethanol-blending program, which has primarily focused on E20 (20% ethanol) adoption. Because pure ethanol behaves differently than traditional petrol, standard vehicles on the road today cannot simply switch to E100. It requires dedicated "flex-fuel" engines with upgraded fuel lines, injectors, and engine calibrations to handle ethanol's unique combustion and corrosive properties.
In a major step toward alternative energy and energy independence, the Indian government has officially approved the regulatory framework for 100% ethanol (E100) fuel.
