Death toll reached to 30 in brutal crackdown by Pakistani forces in PoJK in past days

Ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) have intensified, spreading from Rawalakot to Mirpur amid allegations that Pakistani security forces fired on civilians. Authorities face mounting accusations of inciting violence, conducting mass arrests, and enforcing a severe internet blackout to isolate the region.

In response, Amnesty International has demanded an independent investigation into the alleged use of lethal force. Isabelle Lassee, Amnesty’s Acting Regional Director for South Asia, urged Pakistan to immediately restore communication services and grant media access, noting the blackout prevents verification of the situation on the ground. Amnesty also condemned the ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), stating the move has only heightened election-related tensions.
